Open Question: I'm a former average student and BU reject. Could I get into these universities under these circumstances?

So, I use to be an average student, the type that gets B's and C's, maybe an A sometimes. I've attended UMass Amherst for my freshmen year and now I'm attending my community college back home to save a little dough. I plan to go back to Massachusetts in the near future, but I'm set on applying to prestigious schools like Boston University and Northeastern University. So far. . . I have been receiving nothing below an A in 18 different courses. I did a retake on my SAT and received a 2200 And in addition, I have been apart of a few organizations that allow me to volunteer abroad in places like Cambodia and Kenya, where I helped a community learn to speak English, and other sorts of developments. But of course I didn't volunteer because I thought it would look good on my resume. Meeting those people were the best months of my life. I wasn't always a great student though. My first year at UMass was mediocre. I'm afraid that the schools will pay attention to that not so great first year I had. I would like for them to see how much I've improved as a student and person since that year. And because I'm not a freaking genius or a math/science whiz, another argument of mine would be that, although I can't impress them with fancy words and consistently good grades, I can still thrive in making the world a better place just by devoting my effort and time. I realized that sometime while I was in Kenya, but do you think that these schools would realize that as well? What are my chances this time?... Read More »
