Open Question: How is it that Mao and all these asian rulers never learned from George Washington?

In the last century in Asia, there were all these countries, China, Cambodia, who all managed to finally drive out the western powers and then they just proceeded to completely destroy everything that was left over from the west, including the good things the western powers left behind. When George Washington drove out the British, he was very careful to establish American independence but not to throw away everything the British had left behind. After all, the positive influences and aspects of the British were retained and incorporated into American government and culture to form a more better union. Furthermore, Washington never really seemed to care about his place in history, he vehemently vetoed the idea of being King, and was quite reluctant to be President. So Mao, who had the benefit of perhaps learning a bit about George Washington, just proceeded to completely destroy China in the cultural revolution. If an idea came from the west, no matter how great it was, Mao made sure to destroy it. So what was it about Mao that he saw what George Washington did and then proceeded to do completely the opposite?
